A Reformer's Meditation

The Sound-Byte

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

The Details

Dissention within the ranks of those who ostensibly share a common purpose is nothing new. In fact it is as old as the early Christian Church. Hear what the Apostle Paul felt obligated to write to the Church at Cornith:

I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissentions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and same judgement.

For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brethren.

What I mean is that each one of you says, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apolos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ."

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

[1 Cor 1:10-13, RSV]

This is where we as Reformers stand today - some claiming allegiance to Ross, or Jack, or Pat, or Gerry, or Ezola. Is that why we came to Reform? I think not. While each of these have served Reform in their own way, they are not Reform.

We came out of love of country and the rule of law, dedicating ourselves to restoration of the Constitutional Principles which the founders of this nation held to be Divinely inspired, and fought and died for.

Yes, we each have unique gifts and insights to bring to this party that we call Reform. That is all right. It is well and good that the body of Reform be made up of different parts united to one end.

So let us end the quarreling and move forward together, if it be God's will that we save this nation.

Pray my brothers and sisters that God grant us the grace, strength, and wisdom to do what needs to be done.
