I have been both a disillusioned Democrat and a disillusioned Republican. I have come to the conclusion that there is not a dime's worth of difference between them -- the powers that be in each party seek to expand the size and scope of government, to the detriment of the people.
I have given up on the two-party system, and have dedicated myself to building a viable alternative in Arizona. To this end I have served as Chairman of the Reform Party of Arizona, and I now am running as a Libertarian.
I therefore call upon Independents, Libertarians, Reformers, members of the Constitution Party, disenfranchised Democrats and Republicans, and others of good will to help me build a principled alternative to the Democratic and Republican parties, which have been aptly described as two wings of the same bird of prey.
This will be a three-way race this year, which promises lots of excitement. I expect to face either Republican incumbent Carolyn Allen or challenger Robert Ditchey, and Democratic newcomer Stuart Turnansky. To win in this three-way race, I need to more than double the vote I earned in 2002.
I can do it! -- Last time I was shut out of most publicity venues because I was dismissed as a "write-in candidate." But I still got over 15% of the vote! Since this year I am not a write-in candidate, the sky is the limit. Double last election's votes and add 4% and I could be in!
Some folks assume that if I am not part of the entrenched two-party system that I will be unable to accomplish anything even if elected. My first answer to that is simply that I will have one vote out of 30 in the State Senate. That is far greater leverage than your vote in the general election -- which does indeed count!
My second answer is that, since I am not beholden to the Democratic or Republican establishment, I can act as an honest broker representing the people of Arizona against politics as ususal, and leverage my swing vote to good advantage.
