Orville R. Weyrich, Jr. -- Libertarian Reform for Arizona State Senate District 8

Fountain Hills Times, August 28, 2002

The Fountain Hill Times covered the race between Carolyn Allen and Orville Weyrich in their Wednesday, August 28, 2002 edition on page 7A. Since this article is not available online, interested readers must purchase a copy or visit their public library to read the entire article.

However, the following copy was provided by the Weyrich campaign to the paper, which was quoted extensively in the article:

I have lived in Arizona since 1989, am married with two children, ages 6 and 18. I am 50 years of age. I work as a Computer Consultant/Contract programmer and also teach at the post-secondary level. I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee. I am currently teaching C++ programming and Microbiology. I have been active in Arizona politics since the mid-1990s, and in 2000 worked to support JD Hayworth, David Smith, Alan Keyes, and Pat Buchanan. I have served both as a Republican Precinct Committeeman and as Chairman of the Reform Party of Arizona before switching my registration to the Libertarian Party.

I am a fresh face with an analytical mind and a dedication to minimizing the cost of government. My opponent (Carolyn Allen) has served in the legislature since 1995, and was term-limited out of the house. She is an entrenched part of "the problem" that converted our state budget surplus into a spiraling deficit.

I am energetic and a hard working consensus builder. Due to failing health, my opponent has not been legislatively effective of late. Although serving on the house environment subcommittee as well as national environmental groups, she failed to either protect Arizona taxpayers from the ill-conceived alt-fuels debacle or protect Arizona forests from devastating wildfires. I will work hard to ensure that all programs have well-understood cost/benefit controls built in, and to ensure that Arizona pursues a "wise use" environmental policy.

My primary objective is when I end my legislative term, taxes will be lower, individual freedom greater, families strengthened and essential state programs more cost effective.
