Biography of Orville Weyrich

Orville Weyrich was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1952. He was married in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1981, and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1989. His daughter was born in Alabama, and his son in Scottsdale. His wife works as a Registered Nurse.

Before moving to Arizona, Dr. Weyrich was Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Georgia. He has since worked in the computing industry in Arizona, as well as teaching at several campuses of the Maricopa Community College District. He presently is Anatomy Lab Manager at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, where he is also studying Naturopathic medicine.

Education

Orville Weyrich, Jr. graduated in 1973 from Union College of Kentucky Magna Cum Laud with a triple major in Chemistry, Math, and Physics. In 1976 he earned a Master's degree in Chemistry from Duke University, and in 1982 he earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Weyrich has additional post-graduate studies in Computer Science and Engineering at Auburn University, and s presently pursuing a degree in Naturopathic Medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Community Service Activities

• Volunteer Chapter Duty Officer for the Arizona Chapter of the Red Cross.
• Disaster communications volunteer/Ham license KD7HJV for the Red Cross.
• Served as a volunteer phone worker for the Contact Teleministries telephone crisis line in Tennessee.
• Volunteer teacher of English as a Second Language for Vietnamese refugees.
• Sound engineer for the student stage productions ("World on Parade" and "A Tribute to Stevie Wonder") at the University of Tennessee (1978).
• Computer Science representative for Minority Visitation Day at the University of Georgia.

Church Service Activities

• Assistant Sunday School teacher at Scottsdale Bible Church.
• Lector, St. Bernard of Clair Vaux RC Church.
• Served as Eucharistic Minister, Athens Georgia.
• Served as lay-preacher in a rural Methodist circuit in Alabama (Auburn UMC).
• Served as assistant Sunday School teacher at Church Street UMC (Tennessee).
• Served as an acolyte at Normandy Evangelical United Brethren Church as a child (Ohio).

Professional Service Activities

• Past president of the Phoenix Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association.
• Served as Chairperson of the Professional Development and Continuing Education Committee of the Phoenix Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association.
• Served as faculty advisor of the University of Georgia chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.

Political Service Activities

• Former State Chairman, Reform Party of Arizona.
• Organized Reform Party booth at Arizona State Fair in 2000.
