I strongly oppose NAFTA, CAFTA, FTAA, WTO, etc. We need to return to tariffs as a means of generating revenue and balancing trade, and get away from the income tax. Each dollar paid by Americans in tariffs gives a competitive advantage to our own workers. Each dollar paid in income taxes discourages our own workers' industry and productivity. Those who say tariffs will lead to a trade war deny that we are already in a trade war. The only question is, will we fight back, or just roll over?
Tariffs on imported goods will help reduce this trend towards outsourcing. I am open to additional proposals.
Employers of imported workers should at a minimum be required to pay 100% of associated costs to the taxpayers -- including health care, law enforcement, educational costs, and liability associated with those workers. [Note that this can be implemented at the State or Federal level].
Corruption is already illegal, but the foxes are watching the hen-house. Campaign finance reform does not seem to be effective. The only proposal I have heard that might help is to return selecting US Senators to the State Legislature -- it will at least increase the number of persons that special interests must corrupt, and make the corruption more evident to the local voters. [Note that this is a constitutional issue which can be addressed either by Congress or by the state legislatures.]
